After six months of fundraising, a Zanesville pet store was able to present a $10,000 check to the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center Saturday afternoon.

From October until March, Pet Valu sold calendars featuring photos of the dogs at the adoption center.

Proceeds from those sales put Pet Valu right at its $10,000 goal, an accomplishment the store’s assistant manager, Brandee Grant, was excited about reaching.

“It is great. It’s fabulous. We love it,” said Grant. “And I know it’s for a good cause, and I know it’s going to help numerous animals in our community.”

The money will be spent covering medical costs, a fund that Dog Warden Bryan Catlin said was not previously available and sometimes meant euthanization for the dogs.

“Now that funds are available through donations, the dogs actually do have more of a chance to get fixed, get the medical needs that are necessary and potentially have an adopted family for that reason,” said Catlin.

Catlin said the Dog Warden and Adoption Center is grateful for the donation.
