A 14-year 4-H member from Muskingum County recently received the Ohio 4-H Achievement Award in Personal Development.

On June 6, Tri-Valley High School graduate Samantha Mozena accepted the state award at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center in Columbus.

Achievement awards in 4-H are presented annually to the top youth members throughout Ohio in different project or leadership categories.

With 14 years of 4-H experience, Mozena, a member from the Norwich Stovetop Stitchers and Critters 4-H Club, has held a number of positions in the organization including being a member of the Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council, serving as the 4-H CARTEENS Volunteer, County 4-H Ambassador, 4-H Junior Leader, member of the Junior Fair Board and a camp counselor, according to a media release.

Additionally, Mozena has accumulated a number of awards, excelled in many project areas and represented her home county at the Ohio State Fair on multiple occasions.

From 2019 to 2020, Mozena will serve as the Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council Junior Advisor.

Mozena is one of 29 4-H Achievement Award winners that will attend the National 4-H Congress, along with youth members from across the country, in Atlanta. The congress is held in November.

Sponsoring Mozena’s award was Jim and Marlene Helt, both Muskingum County Natives. Jim Helt worked as a 4-H educator for Ohio State University Extension as a 4-H Educator, District Specialist and ended his career as a State 4-H Leader.

Mozena is currently a student at Ohio University Zanesville studying communications and applied management. She plans to seek a career with 4-H as an extension educator.
