An altercation between several people on Johnstown-Utica Road left one Zanesville man shot and another Zanesville man charged, among others.

In the early morning hours on Sunday, June 23, the Licking County Sheriff’s Office dispatched deputies to the 8200 block of Johnstown-Utica Road, in Liberty Township, in response to multiple shots fired, according to a release from the Licking County Sheriff.

After investigating the scene where approximately 50 people had attended a party, deputies concluded that several people were involved in an altercation — gunfire was exchanged and vehicles were used to ram other occupied vehicles, the release states.

Elijah Striblin, a 19 year-old from Zanesville, suffered a gunshot wound during the altercation. The shot Striblin sustained was non-life-threatening.

Garland Lewis, also a 19 year-old from Zanesville, as well as 18 year-old Charles Speigal of Hartford were both taken into custody and charged with felonious assault and firing weapons while intoxicated.

Additionally, 17 year-old George Mentzer of Alexandria will be charged with vehicular assault, and 24 year-old Cory Lamer of Johnstown will be charged with criminal damaging.

The incident is still under investigation by the Licking County Sheriff’s Office.
