A group of minors playing in the woods in Blue Rock took a wrong path and found themselves trapped in unfamiliar terrain.

Around 6:40 p.m. the Harrison Township Fire Department received a call from one of the lost children stating three or four young people were trapped in the woods.

“It was quite tough to get to them,” Harrison Township Fire Chief Jarrod Blake said. “We ended up locating the victims on foot and, after a lengthy extrication, all victims were out (with) minor scrapes.”

Upon receiving the initial call, which stated that the victims were stuck on a cliff or at the bottom of a cliff, the fire department called in MedFlight as a precautionary measure.

Newton Township Fire Department was also called in for assistance as the department has repelling gear.

Blake said it took about 10 minutes to locate the victims and another 45 minutes to get them to safety.

“It’s extreme hills straight up, straight down. It was pretty treacherous,” Blake said.

No severe injuries were sustained by any of the children.

In addition to Harrison Township and Newton Township Fire Departments, the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office also assisted on scene.
