Pat is approaching his one year anniversary as a resident of the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center — a stay that is far too long, according to his caregivers.

A pit bull-mix, Pat came into the adoption center in August 2018 along with his companion Vanna. The duo was found as strays out in the county.

“They were really good, they came in together, no issues,” Deputy Dog Warden Brittany Calihan said. “But once Pat was here we started to see that he doesn’t particularly like other dogs as well as we might have thought.”

While Pat enjoys the company and attention of human companions, he’s not fond of other furry friends, which has affected people’s interest in adopting him.

Calihan said he is well behaved and laid back. She said an ideal environment for Pat would be a home where he is the only pet.

Although he’s a little selective with his companionships, Pat is well behaved and enjoys to play.

“He walks well on a leash, he’s easy to play with. He really loves tennis balls, he’ll carry them in his mouth,” Calihan said.

While Pat enjoys to walk, he has no issues letting his walker know when he’s ready to conclude his exercise.

“When he goes for walks, he’ll let you know when he’s done,” Calihan said. “We were walking and he just decided in the middle of the walk to lay down and he done. So, I had to coax him into coming back up the hill.”

Pat is a volunteer favorite and has been taken on short trips by volunteers to Dillon Lake, PetValu and Lowe’s.

Pat is available for adoption at the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center. Anyone interested in adopting her can call the center to set up an appointment for a meet-and-greet at 740.453.0273.
