Two have been charged in the murder of a Zanesville woman whose body was found dumped on the side of a road in Franklin County last week.

John Jenkins Jr., 26, is accused of killing his 64 year-old grandmother, Elizabeth Alvarez, at their Adams Street home sometime between May 26 and May 27.

According to Detective Tom Porter of the Zanesville Police Department, Alvarez was killed as a result of a family dispute.

Jenkins is charged with one unclassified felony count of aggravated murder, one third-degree felony count of tampering with evidence and a fifth-degree felony count of abuse of a corpse.

Jenkins’ girlfriend, 20 year-old Rachel Sipple, has been named his accomplice in the cover-up of the crime.

She is charged with one third-degree felony count of tampering with evidence, two third-degree felony counts of obstructing justice and a fifth-degree felony count of abuse of a corpse.

Both await indictment in Muskingum County on those alleged crimes.

According to Porter, Jenkins killed Alvarez and, with the help of Sipple, transported her body to Franklin County where her body was left in a wooded area to the side of a road. Her body would later be found on May 31.

The pair then made their way into Columbus where they were arrested after robbing a gas station on May 28. Porter suspects they were attempting to obtain money before fleeing town.

Both Jenkins and Sipple picked up additional felonies in Franklin County for the alleged crime.

Jenkins is charged with second and third-degree counts of robbery.

Sipple is also charged with second and third-degree counts of robbery, as well as two felony counts of failure to comply — one of the third-degree and the other of the fourth-degree.

Both are being held in jail in Franklin County.
