The Zanesville Fire Department has determined the fire at a Sevall Avenue home started accidentally and was electrical in nature.

According to Assistant Chief John Rodman, the department was called to the house around 9 a.m. Tuesday.

When crews arrived on scene, they found the house to be full of smoke but managed to find the dog trapped inside.

Rodman said the only person home at the time was already outside when the fire department arrived.

He was taken to the hospital for minor abrasions sustained while escaping.

Damages were heavy but limited to the basement, Rodman said.
