Zanesville Police investigating shooting death of 21 year-old woman

Police are investigating a homicide after a 21 year-old woman was found dead in Zanesville.

According to Captain Scott Comstock of the Zanesville Police Department, officers found the woman’s body after being called to 609 Pershing Rd. at 3:21 Monday morning.

The woman has been identified as Martisa Palmer, according to a media release from the ZPD.

Officers arrested 24 year-old Dustin R. Cox in a parked vehicle outside of a residence in southeastern Zanesville on Monday.

Police confirmed the woman died from a gunshot wound.

Comstock said the 911 call was to report a disturbance at the Pershing Road address.

Cox is being held on a $1,000,000 bond in the Zanesville City Jail for aggravated murder with a gun specification and tampering with evidence.

No further information surrounding the events leading up to Monday morning’s events could be released at this time as the investigation is still active.

Prior to a media release from ZPD Chief Tony Coury, Comstock said several witnesses from the scene were being interviewed and no one had been arrested as of 10:30 a.m.
