Nearly 1,400 without power in New Concord area
November 15, 2018
Update: Power has been restored to the area.
About 1,384 AEP customers in the area of New Concord are without power due to two separate power outages in the area, according to the AEP Ohio Outage Map.
The outages occurred Thursday between 10 and 10:30 a.m.
An AEP Ohio Media Representative said that the cause of those two specific outages is currently unknown, but crews are working to make the necessary repairs and hope to restore power to the area by 12:30 p.m. That timeframe is dependent upon the weather and given that the repairs hold the representative said.
The media representative added that over 17,000 people are without power in the central Ohio area. Many of the outages she said have been due to weather issues and cars crashing into poles.
New Concord Village Hall’s phone lines are currently down. Anyone with an emergency should call 911. Additionally, traffic lights are not operational. All intersections should be treated as four-way stops.
Additionally, Muskingum University classes were canceled due to the outage, according to the university’s website. As of 11:57 a.m. all classes and activities have resumed.
