Muskingum womens soccer wins 20th United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award

By Nick McWilliams, Sports Director

The Muskingum University womens soccer team is flexing their academic prowess off the field.

The award recognizes academic proficiency in the National Collegiate Athletic Association in both the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and National Junior College Athletic Association. It was created in 1996.

Head coach Mary Beth Caudill is proud to see her team once again earn the distinction and identified a few core principles her team can take from the hard work they put into the classroom that directly translates to the field.

“You’re going to find that your most studious students are the ones that lead on the field,” she said. “Discipline, for sure … perseverance … I would say pushing through things even when they’re frustrating and realizing you have to figure it out.”

The award is meant to recognize teams that hold a collective grade point average higher than a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and takes into consideration all members of a roster.

The Muskies’ next game comes this Saturday at Baldwin Wallace. Muskingum is currently 5-8 and looking for their first conference win of the year.
