A Zanesville teen died Tuesday night after crashing the car he was driving on SR 93.

According to a media release, 17 year-old Garrett Howard was driving north of Interstate 70 when he lost control, veering off the left side of the road and striking a culvert around 10:40 p.m.

The impact ejected the teen, who was not wearing a seatbelt, from the car.

Howard was taken to Genesis Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

Howard was the only one in the 2009 Kia Rio.

The Zanesville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.

The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Investigative Unit, Genesis EMS and Washington Township Fire Department all responded to the crash.
