OUZ nursing students educating public on organ donation

By Christine Holmes, News Director

The senior nursing students at Ohio University Zanesville are making it their mission this year to inform the public on the importance of becoming an organ donor.

With around 3,000 people in Ohio waiting for transplants and 115,000 nationally, senior Lacie Chevalier said she and her classmates want to help educate the community in Zanesville on organ donation.

That’s why they’ve asked Jennifer Hudak-Million from Lifeline of Ohio to be their featured speaker as part of their senior class community outreach project.

During her visit, Hudak-Million will help debunk some myths about registering to be an organ donor, Chevalier said.

The informational session is also intended to inform the public since many don’t understand what they’re being asked at the BMV, according Chevalier.

The event is Wednesday, Oct. 10 from 4-5:30 p.m. at OUZ’s Elson Auditorium.

Anyone who signs up for the organ donation registry during the program will receive a free t-shirt.
