Police searching for man who fled scene of motorcycle crash after hitting deer

Police are searching for a man who apparently crashed a motorcycle on Dresden Road Thursday night and fled the scene.

Brady Campbell was heading north on Dresden Road when he hit a deer and went off of the right side of the road and into a mailbox, Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Joshua Weaver said.

“A witness … heard it, told his wife to call 911, walked over and the guy was laying face down next to the bike,” Weaver said. “(He) starts talking to him, the guy gets up, picks up the bike, tries to leave and he kept trying to get Trent (witness) to help him bring the bike over. Another witness shows up and the guy starts becoming extremely belligerent.”

Campbell grew angry with the witnesses and eventually sat on one of the witnesses’ back porch. He got up and left and the witnesses began to follow him down the tree line until he turned and told them to stop following them and became “confrontational,” Weaver said.

Campbell was last seen heading west, but officers have yet to locate him. He does have “road rash” on his arm but appeared to be walking fine, Weaver said.

The motorcycle that Campbell was driving is registered to his father.

Troopers were in contact with Campbell’s family and have an idea of where he may be heading.

A section of Dresden Road was closed between Tiffany Drive and Richvale Road as units from the Zanesville Police Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol investigated. As of 11:34 p.m. the road was reopened to traffic.

A K-9 unit was also on the scene assisting.

Responders first arrived on the scene shortly after 10 p.m.

The accident is still under investigation by OSP. It is unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.
