Semi runs over fire hydrant, causes 375,000 gallons of lost water
September 18, 2018
At approximately 5 a.m. Tuesday, a semi truck struck a fire hydrant on Maple Avenue in front of O’Reilly Auto Parts and Donatos Pizza.
Water Superintendent Paul Mills said the damaged fire hydrant caused the water tower to lose roughly 375,000 gallons of water.
Crews were able to shut the water off and have been working throughout the day Tuesday to make the repairs. The hydrant had to be replaced, and clean up was needed in both parking lot of the nearby businesses.
As of 1 p.m., Mills said the Zanesville Water Department crews are cleaning up and should reopen the closed lane on Maple when they finish.
The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Department took over the accident investigation.
The semi driver or the company he was driving for will likely be billed for the damages, Mills said.

The trucking company will not be happy having to pay that bill. Yikes
