Police investigating Greenwood Avenue injury assault

By Christine Holmes, News Director

A heavy police presence was seen Friday night in the area between Underwood Street and Greenwood Avenue after what Zanesville Police say was an assault.

An officer investigating the scene at a house on the corner of Greenwood Avenue and McOwen Street said a man was taken to the hospital for a non-life threatening wound after being assaulted.

The officer also confirmed that another scene behind St. Nicholas Church on East Main Street near Downtown was related to the incident.

The officer was unable to give more information at the time, but neighbors in the area gave statements to Y-City News on what they witnessed.

A woman who lives next door to where the assault occurred said she saw the victim run out of the house holding his arm. The neighbor said she knew the man who told her he was stabbed.

The neighbor said the man who she alleges stabbed the victim then fled to St. Nicholas Church where the other police presence occurred. Her statements have not been confirmed by officials, but the neighbor said she was given permission to speak with reporters after giving her account to investigating officers.

Another woman who was walking her dog near the scene said she heard gunshots, though her statement is also unconfirmed at this time.

Y-City News is working to learn more information about the incident and will update the story when more details are known.
