Light project plans dimmed for time being
September 4, 2018
Plans for new lighting under some of Zanesville’s Downtown bridges are temporarily on hold following some unexpected logistic issues.
According to a release from the Muskingum County Community Foundation, the project which will provide decorative lighting in the areas surrounding the Y-Bridge and 6th Street Bridge is on hold until March 2019 due to equipment conflicts and planning concerns.
Equipment needed for the project is not available for the originally planned start.
Additionally, The lighting project requires a redesign of the electrical system, including the installation of a second run conduit.
Further, the City of Zanesville is requesting a detailed plan depicting how the lighting project ties into the current power grid.
“We are extremely disappointed we were not able to get the project started this fall,” said MCCF CEO Brian Wagner while reading a statement to Y-City News. “We certainly appreciate the community’s understanding and patience with the delay, sometimes unexpected issues arise that affect the timeline.”
When the project is completed, the water and surrounding structures of the two bridges will be illuminated.
“The important thing to remember is the project is delayed, not cancelled,” said Kelly Ashby, Vice President, Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce. “We look forward to resuming the process next spring.”
The bridge lighting project is funded by the Muskingum County Convention Facilities Authority, Zanesville Muskingum County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Zanesville Noon Rotary Club, Zanesville Daybreak Rotary, the Rogge Foundation and The Muskingum County Community Foundation.
