Summer is coming to a close but Labor Day Weekend is providing an extra day this weekend. There are plenty of events in Zanesville and around Muskingum County … Lots of things in New Concord this weekend. Here’s a guide to keep every local busy all weekend long. Thursday, Aug. 30:

  • Works by Maraya Metz Display at the John McIntire Library from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Metz is a student artist in the area whose work will be on display at the library through the month of August.
  • Artists of the Muskingum County Center for Seniors Display at the John McIntire Library from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The display will show works of art from the participating seniors at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors. The display will be available on weekdays throughout August.
  • 73rd Ohio Annual Exhibition at Zanesville Museum of Art from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The exhibition is celebrating the museum’s commitment to recognizing and promoting some of Ohio’s finest artists and artisans.
  • Toddler Story Time at the John McIntire Library from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The program is aimed at 2 to 3.5-year-olds to enhance language skills through stories, songs and activities. For more information contact the Youth Services Desk at the library.
  • Preschool Story Time at the John McIntire Library from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The program is aimed at 3.5-to 5-year-old children to enhance engagement through stories, songs and activities.
  • Book Discussion with the Muskingum County Library System from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Zanesville Museum of Art. Join Scott Horst inn reading Kassie St. Clair’s The Secret Lives of Color.

Friday, Aug. 31:

  • Solid Gold Rib Fest kicks off tonight at 4 at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds. There will be plenty of ribs and live entertainment. The fest will run through Saturday night.
  • The Wilds Sunset Safari Tourat 4:30 p.m. Guests enjoy a buffet-style dinner before boarding a safari vehicle to see the animals up close in their open-range habitats. The tour includes a behind-the-scenes viewing of the property. It’s $75 per person or $70 per person for members. Make your reservation here.
  • Lorena Sternwheeler Dinner Cruise from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Zane’s Landing Park. Guests are asked to call 48 hours in advance to make a reservation. Adult tickets for $35 and children’s tickets for $15.

Saturday, Sept. 1:

  • Zanesville Farmer’s Market from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Fairgrounds on Pershing Road.
  • New Concord Elementary Park Family Fun from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The event is free to the public and will offer story time, community yard sale, live performances and a big mouth storytelling Competition.
  • Storyfest by BigFishFolkLife at the New Concord Branch Library from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • 73rd Ohio Annual Exhibition at Zanesville Museum of Art from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The exhibition is celebrating the museum’s commitment to recognizing and promoting some of Ohio’s finest artists and artisans.

  • Lorena Sternwheeler Public Rides from 2 to 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Zane’s Landing Park. The sternwheeler travels up the Muskingum River Trail. No reservations are required but guests are asked to arrive 20 minutes before they plan to ride. Seniors ride for $7, Adults ride for $8 and children ride for $4.

  • Parker/Throckmorton is performing live at Weasel Boy Brewing from 8 to 11 p.m. The band is co-lead by guitarist Chris Parker out of Brooklyn or drummer David Throckmorton out of Pittsburgh.

Sunday, Sept. 2:

  • New Concord Park Family Fun at the New Concord Elementary Park from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The festivities kick off with worship in the park with Bloomfield Presbyterian Church and Christian artist Mitch McViker.
  • Muskies of Main Block Party at New Concord Elementary School from 2 to 8:30 p.m. There will be food trucks, a farmer’s market, NCAARD, Muskingum University clubs with games and activities and live local music.
