New Concord celebrates Labor Day Weekend with block party

The Village of New Concord is saying goodbye to summer and kicking off the school year with a Labor Day Weekend block party.
Muskies on Main kicks off Saturday, Sept. 1 and continues into Sunday, Sept. 2 with activities and entertainment fit for the whole family at the park located between New Concord Elementary School and the library.
On Saturday, the festivities begin at 10 a.m. with “Book Me!.” Intended for families with children in grades K-3, the New Concord Branch Library is partnering with students from Muskingum University to bring stories to life.
From 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., there will be a community-wide yard sale in the upper level of the elementary school park.
Storytellers can enter a Big Mouth Storytelling Contest that runs from 1-4 p.m. Registration is from 12-1 p.m. on the NCAARD website.
On the entertainment side of things, local folk singer Barefoot McCoy will perform at 7 p.m., followed by a performance by National Storytelling Festival storyteller/songwriter, Kim Weitkamp at 8 p.m.
Sunday’s events begin with a worship service from 10 a.m.-noon.
At 2 p.m., the farmers market begins, along with vendors from within the community and other activities, including games and face painting.
Entertainment also starts at 2 p.m. with a performance by the Rushing Wind Biker Church Band.
Community members can take the stage at 3:30 p.m. for Open Mic until 6 p.m. The event opens and closes with a performance by Christian singer, Mitch McVicker.
Finally, at 6:30 p.m. singer John King will wrap up the weekend with a country music performance ending around 8 p.m.
Muskies on Main is sponsored by the Village of New Concord, Muskingum University, BigFishFolklife and Celebrate New Concord. Other contributors include the New Concord Area Board of Trade, NCAARD, Bloomfield Presbyterian Church, Friendship Baptist Church and the New Concord Library.
