August 7, 2018
The results from the polling locations in Muskingum County are in to the Board of Elections for the 2018 special election, and Troy Balderson is the county’s pick.
While Muskingum County’s votes reflect an unofficial win for Balderson (R-OH), the 12th Congressional District’s results have not yet been announced statewide. Official results for the county will be announced later this month.
The race ended in an unofficial landslide victory for Balderson in Muskingum County with 7,774 votes (66.3 percent) to 3,842 votes (32.8 percent) for a win over Danny O’Connor.
Green Party representative, Joe Manchik received an unofficial 103 votes (less than 1 percent) in Muskingum County.
Balderson, a Zanesville High School graduate and former Muskingum University student, made one last stop in his hometown of Zanesville Monday night to secure more conservative votes.
He also appeared in Zanesville to cast his own vote earlier Tuesday morning, according to one of his tweets.
Originally a family farmer in Adamsville, Balderson is currently serving his second term as a State Senator representing the 20th Senate District. His first term began in 2011.
Previous to his state senatorship, he was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from the 94th District from 2009 to 2011.
A follow-up story will be posted when the final votes are tallied for the remainder of the district.
