A medical issue is believed to have caused a semi-truck driver to overturn his vehicle off Exit 164 on I-70 West.

Police were alerted of a possible reckless driver on the interstate. One officer for the Ohio State Highway Patrol was a mile away from where the call occurred, according to Lieutenant Matt Boyd.

The truck overturned off the exit prior to the trooper catching up to the vehicle.

“He was traveling down the interstate and I think he just happened to go off the exit when he lost control,” Boyd said. “So, fortunately, there’s no other vehicles involved and there was only one occupant in the truck.”

Upon arriving at the scene, troopers and emergency medical personnel tended to the male driver of the truck. With further investigation, Boyd said he believes a medical issue might be to blame for the crash and not careless driving.

The driver was carried away from the truck on a stretcher to the ambulance. He was transported to the hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. The medical issue Boyd discussed is unknown at this time.

Perry Township and New Concord fire departments and EMS responded, as well as Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Boyd added the exit will likely need to be closed down for removal of the overturned truck. The exit is expected to be closed for anywhere from four to five hours.
