O’Connor receives endorsement from Giffords

Two weeks away from Ohio’s special election on August 7, both candidates for Ohio’s 12th congressional district are receiving endorsements from nationally known politicians.

Over the weekend, President Donald Trump tweeted his endorsement of State Senator Troy Balderson (R), and most recently his opposition, Danny O’Connor (D), received endorsement from former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

As part of their campaign to elect gun safety candidates throughout the country, Giffords’ gun safety organization is endorsing O’Connor.

The organization known as “Giffords” was established after the Arizona congresswoman was shot in the head during a constituent event in January 2011.

Giffords has made it her mission ever since to end gun violence.

In a statement from the O’Connor campaign, Giffords said “Danny is fighting to put the safety of Ohio communities ahead of the interests of the gun lobby in Washington DC. He is a champion for gun safety who is bold enough to imagine a world where the type of violence we’ve seen is no longer a daily problem. Voters in Ohio and across the country are tired of politicians who say these acts of violence are acts of nature, beyond our control. We are proud to support Danny because he is someone who isn’t afraid to stand up and pass laws to protect our children and keep guns out of dangerous hands.”
