CORSA hands commissioners $16,204 check

The County Risk Sharing Authority is writing checks to various county commissioners throughout Ohio and the Muskingum County Commissioners are among the recipients.
“The check was based on the results of the pool and the strong financial position they’re in, so they returned money to them in the amount of 16,000-plus dollars,” Jason Lyall, the President of Rankin and Rankin Insurance, said. “So, it was a good day for the county.”
Rankin and Rankin Insurance is the Muskingum County agent for CORSA. The agency acts as an intermediary between the commissioners and the CORSA Corporation.
CORSA is a not-for-profit corporation founded in 1987 that provides insurance to the majority of counties in Ohio. There are a variety of “risks” that each county can opt-into coverage for from CORSA. The money that is paid to the corporation to insure the various risks goes into a “pool.”
At the end of a fiscal year, the pool is assessed and the leftover funds are distributed back into the counties in the form of dividend checks since CORSA is a not-for-profit corporation.
While Muskingum County is one of various counties receiving a dividend check, not all Ohio counties that use CORSA insurance are getting a cut of the pool.
