House fire off Wayne Avenue
July 11, 2018
A house off Wayne Avenue caught fire around 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
One man was medically treated at the scene. No people were transported for injuries.
The cause of the fire is still unknown but the Zanesville Fire Department will begin investigating once all of the hotspots in the house are put out, Zanesville Fire Department Interim Chief Doug Hobson said.
“It appears to be a total loss, we actually have a code official coming in right now to deem whether or not we’re actually going to bring in an emergency trackhoe to bring the house down just because of the structure being unsafe,” Hobson said.
Both Zanesville and South Zanesville Police, Fire and EMS were on the scene. Due to the house’s close proximity to a nearby substation, American Electric Power was on the scene as well. A Red Cross Disaster Relief Team was also on the scene.
A Y-City News reporter observed a woman being restrained by police as she attempted to return to the home.
The intersection of Hughes Avenue and Wayne Avenue is still blocked due to fire hoses running across the roadway. Traffic is moving slowly.

I was not restrained the cop slamed and arrested me for telling him he can bring my neighbors dogs to my house to save them and get them away from the fire and went to get my flip flop and cop slammed me &arrested me. I was the one who got him out of his house i saved his life and to safety before anyone got there. I’ve always checked on him and i stay in contact with his family. Total bs with police brutality. Its not like i was on my neighbors property i was in the field trying to talk to the cop. I saved my neighbors life and this is the thanks i get.
