Council approves future purchases of vehicles, trash compactor

Zanesville City Council approved the future purchases of two new vehicles and a trash compacting system during Monday night’s meeting.

The city’s street division received approval for a leaf collection vehicle that will feature a remote control arm that can be operated from inside the vehicle to vacuum leaves on the side of the road.

The vacuum would be strong enough to handle wet leaves while keeping the operator dry inside an enclosed cab, allowing for leaf removal during rainy conditions.

Additionally, the mechanical arm used to move the hose eliminates the need for an additional worker who would complete the same job manually.

In addition to the leaf collector, the street department can also begin the process of purchasing a 2018 one-ton dump truck.

Council also gave approval to the sanitation division for the purchase of a transfer station compactor in order to improve trash collection operations.
