Both the Sheridan and John Glenn track teams enjoyed success in the first day of the OHSAA tournament.

The OHSAA state track tournament still has one day left, but one local athlete is heading back home with some hardware around his neck. Senior Teck Kirkpatrick from Crooksville put forth the best performance of the day in the Division III high jump, edging out junior Anthony Bowman from Africentric with a jump of 6’9″ to break his own school record.

Boasting the highest number of representatives from the Muskingum Valley League, it should be no surprise Sheridan High School finds themselves near the top half of the leader board, tied for sixth as a team. One of the top representatives for the Generals was Ethan Tabor, who was a state runner-up in the long jump with a 22’2.5″ leap and finalist in the 110m and 300m hurdles.

Anna Foster also placed well for Sheridan in her preliminaries, who had the second best time of the day in the 1600m girls run and the best time in the 3200m girls run.

John Glenn also enjoyed a solid first day from a few of its athletes, including three finals slots filled by Karlie Zumbro — long jump, 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles — as well as a chance for the gold in high jump and the 110m hurdles with Joseph Clifford.
