Furry Friend Friday: This former stray is looking for a more permanent arrangement

Zeus is a medium-sized dog looking for a loving family.

The 3 to 4 year-old Pit Bull mix was brought into the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center as a stray.

Volunteer Doug McQuaid said Zeus was in rough shape when he first entered the facility but has been doctored back to health by the volunteers and staff members.

When Zeus sits for a treat, he cannot contain his excitement and will tap his paws until he’s given the treat.

He knows simple commands, such as sit and is eager to learn more commands as long as treats are a reward.

Deputy Dog Warden Alicia Myers said Zeus is eager to please people and appears to be friendly with anyone he encounters including children.

“He’s really a loving dog,” Myers said.

Zeus did previously test positive for heart worm, although the condition was treated and he is now up-to-date on his vaccinations and ready for adoption.

There are currently about 38 dogs, including Zeus, being housed at the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center with another 10 dogs in foster homes.

The adoption center is looking for more community members willing to foster dogs. Anyone interested in fostering dogs or learning more about the process can call the center or visit the facility located at 1500 Newark Rd. in Zanesville.

Anyone interested in adopting Zeus, or one of the other pups in need of a home at the adoption center, can call the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center at 74.453.0273 to set up a meet-and-greet.
