Two new school board members were inducted last Wednesday night with one being selected to serve as vice president.

Kyle Baldwin and Bret Hickman, both newcomers to public service were sworn in ahead of the organizational meeting before a crowd of administrators, staff and members of the community.

Baldwin, now Vice President of the Zanesville City School Board of Education said he is looking forward to getting to meet with students, parents, and teachers as he takes on the new role as a school board member.

Appointed to the Legislative & Business Advisory Committees, Baldwin will report to the board on state legislation that could impact local students and education.

“I want to give children in our school system a better opportunity to work with local businesses,” Baldwin said when briefly discussing his goals for his term as a board member. “It will be a challenge, but one I’m looking forward to.”

Hickman says he is looking forward to serving the district as a board member and that the whole process has been quite the learning experience.

While gathering signatures, Hickman says he had an opportunity to talk to local residents of the district and is very thankful for the support of the local community.

Wanting to have a better understanding of the needs of both students and teachers, Hickman says he plans on spending his Fridays off visiting schools and learning their needs first hand.
