Mid-East Superintendent, Treasurer announce retirement at end of academic year

By Jessica Johnston, Assistant News Director

The Mid-East Career and Technology Centers Board of Education was recently tasked with finding a new superintendent and treasurer as the two people currently occupying those positions announced their resignations at a meeting in December.

During the school’s last board meeting on Dec. 9, the board approved the resignation of Superintendent Richard Hall and Treasurer Richard White. The resolutions also granted the employment of both Hall and White as consultants for a time period following their resignation which will end with their retirement at the end of the consulting period.

Hall said he and White are both retiring but announced their resignation in December to afford the board ample amount of time to undergo the process of finding replacements.

According to the board bulletin from Dec. 9, White’s resignation will be effective June 1, with his consulting period beginning June 1 and ending July 31, he will then retire on July 31.

Similarly, Hall will resign on Aug. 1 with his consulting period beginning Aug. 1 and ending Sept. 1, he will then retire on Sept. 1.

The consulting periods allow the men to help their successors transition into their new roles.

Hall, who has been Superintendent for Mid-East for five years, said he wanted to be fair to the board and help the board members through the transition.

“When you retire, you tend to reflect a lot,” Hall said. “I’ve had a wonderful experience in education, it’s been a wonderful profession, it’s a wonderful career. I wouldn’t change anything. I’ve been very blessed to work with a lot of great people at both districts.”

Prior to Hall’s time with Mid-East, he served as the superintendent for East Guernsey Local Schools for seven-and-a-half years during his 27 year-long career in the district where he also served as a teacher, coach and principal.

“I’ve just been very blessed in my educational career to work with a lot of great students, a lot of great staff and two outstanding school districts,” Hall said.

While Hall’s time as superintendent is not quite over, he said the main things he will miss the most are staff, students and the mission of providing students with the best educational experience he could provide.

“Teachers and staff work very hard, and I’m very proud to have been a part of both districts but just get great satisfaction in seeing how hard our staff works and what they do for students,” Hall said.

The next Mid-East Career and Technology Centers Board of Education meeting will be held on Monday, Jan. 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Administrative Center Board Room located at 400 Richards Rd. in Zanesville.
