I-70 reopens after crash, traffic slow-moving
October 31, 2019
Traffic on Interstate 70 is beginning to move again after a jackknifed semi-truck near Gratiot shut down both westbound lanes Thursday afternoon.
Just before 2:30 p.m., the truck crashed into a guardrail and blocked both lanes of traffic when it came to its resting point.
According to Muskingum County EMA Director Jeff Jadwin, the truck spilled diesel fuel and motor oil, which took longer than anticipated to clean.
It wasn’t until around 5:30 that the interstate re-opened, but traffic is still backed up for miles and also causing a build-up on U.S. 40.

This points out the desperate need for emergency/alternate routes thru Zanesville when these crashes occur.
Emergency management needs to come up with a plan to reroute traffic and I don’t mean just letting the traffic lights handle it.
