The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a woman charged with rape, among other felonies, as a result of an investigation into the sexual abuse of a 3 year-old girl.

Melanie Young, 45, is facing first-degree felony charges of rape and attempted rape, as well as 14 second-degree felony counts of illegal use of a minor or impaired person in nudity-oriented material and two counts of pandering sexually-oriented material involving a minor or impaired person, according to a media release from the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office.

Young’s charges were foreshadowed on Sept. 20 when the GCSO announced that Young’s co-defendant, 31 year-old Michael Smith of Cambridge, was arrested and charged with rape of a toddler and stated that more charges against Smith, as well as others were possible.

Smith was charged with two first-degree felony counts of rape, a first-degree felony count of kidnapping and a second-degree felony charge of pandering sexually-oriented matter involving a minor or impaired person.

Guernsey County Sheriff Jeffrey Paden stated that Smith was charged as a result of an investigation launched after the 3 year-old victim’s mother filed a complaint. An investigation was launched on Sept. 16.

Smith is currently being held in the Guernsey County Jail on a $2.5 million bond.

An arrest warrant was issued for Young Wednesday, although her location is currently unknown.

According to the release, investigators learned that Young has not been at her residence for about two weeks.

Anyone with information surrounding the whereabouts of Young is asked to contact the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office at 740.439.4455.
