Local departments assist in Coshocton fire
June 29, 2019
A fire at the abandoned Ansell-Edmont factory building in Coshocton required assistance from fire departments around the region Thursday night.
At 8:17 p.m. Coshocton Fire Department received a call about fire and smoke coming from the structure. When firefighters arrived, they immediately called for additional trucks and personnel. West Lafayette, Three Rivers, Jackson Township and Newcomerstown were dispatched to the scene.
Within minutes, the roof collapsed and the concern of the fire spreading led to additional requests for ladders from Dresden, New Concord and the City of Zanesille Fire Departments.
“This was a very large building that was completely engulfed in fire,” said Captain Braxton of the Coshocton Fire Department.
“There was attached structures, with open doorways connecting buildings. It was our main concern at that point to stop the fire from spreading,” Braxton said when referring to the large number of responding firefighting units.
The fire was eventually contained and the cause is currently under investigation.
With multiple departments on scene, fire commanders requested the City of Coshocton increase water pressure in the municipal water lines to assist firefighters.
