Driver crashes into bus shelter while clearing scene of accident

By Jessica Johnston, Assistant News Director

A pickup truck involved in a three-vehicle accident on Maysville Pike pulled into a parking lot to end up in another accident.

Wednesday evening, three vehicles were involved in a minor accident. Upon South Zanesville Police arriving on the scene, an officer requested all three vehicles moves to the Sheetz parking lot as all drivers stated their vehicles were drivable.

As the pickup truck involved in the accident pulled into the Sheetz parking lot, in front of the car wash, the brakes malfunctioned and the truck could not stop. Rolling over the curb and heading toward Maysville Pike traffic, the truck halted as it hit the bus shelter.

The officer on scene said it was fortunate that the driver ran into the shelter as the alternative would have landed the truck in the middle of traffic.

No one involved in either accident was injured.

*Originally it was reported that the shelter belongs to South East Area Transit, however, that is not factual. It is unknown who is responsible for the bus shelter.
