The Zanesville Museum of Art is bringing some of the best works from Ohio’s artists to the local community during the 74th Ohio Annual Exhibition next week.

On June 20, the public can see the pieces for themselves during the exhibition’s opening at 5:30 p.m.

Of the 224 artists who submitted a total of 353 works for consideration in the juried exhibition, only 49 were chosen — three being local artists.

Featured will be Cat House by Zanesville artist Nora Daniel.

Featured from Muskingum County will be Nora Daniel of Zanesville, Jennifer Sands of Zanesville and Ken McCollum of New Concord.

“There are several other museums that do all-Ohio artist shows, but to have one right here locally is such a great benefit to the community,” said Krysten Smart, Office Manager at ZMA.

Presenting the $1,000 prize for best in show alongside ZMA Executive Director Laine Snyder is distinguished guest juror, Scot Phillips, Operations Officer at The Massillon Museum.

ZMMA affiliate group, the Beaux Arts Club, will present The Mrs. Janice Ballas Excellence in Fiber Arts Award and a $250 prize to an outstanding artist. Other awards in the amount of $100 will be presented to artists in painting, drawing, prints, collage, sculpture, jewelry and functional metalwork, glass and photography.

Hanging Nomadic Tent by Zanesville artist Jennifer Sands will be on display throughout the exhibition.

Those who make it to the opening reception will be treated to music by the Brady Isreal Trio, light snacks and a cash bar.

The 74th Ohio Annual Exhibition runs through Sept. 7.
