Main connecting to water tower breaks on Greenwood Avenue
February 2, 2019
Update as of 7 p.m.: The city has placed portable traffic lights to keep Greenwood Avenue traffic down to one lane.
A water main connected to the Downtown Zanesville water tower has burst on Greenwood Avenue.
The number of customers without water on the east side of Zanesville is currently unknown.
Employees from the city water department were on scene turning valves to redirect water away from the affected portion of the pipe.
An inch of water was seen running down Greenwood Avenue Saturday afternoon before city crews were able to redirect the water.
One lane of Greenwood Avenue, near the intersection of Greenwood and Hamline Avenue, is closed. Two Zanesville Police Offices were directing traffic around the eroded asphalt earlier Satursday evening.
Crews do not have an estimated time of restoration for affected customers as of 6 p.m.
Water department employees are currently waiting for OUPS (Ohio Utilities Protection Service) to arrive and locate other obstructions, such as natural gas and sewage lines, before crews can begin digging.
