Timothy Hartmeyer, who was employed with the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office for 28 years in a variety of positions, pleaded guilty in July to eight counts he was charged with related to a child pornography case.

He was charged with two counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor, a felony of the fourth degree, two counts of illegal use of minor in nudity oriented material or performance, a felony of the second degree, and four counts of illegal use of minor nudity oriented material or performance, a felony of the fifth degree.

A previous recommendation by the State suggested a sentence of 10 years of incarceration for Hartmeyer. During his sentencing, Monday, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Ron Welch stated that the State recommended a new sentence of 9 years in prison.

One of Hartmeyer’s attorneys, Grant Stubbins, asked Judge Kelly Cottrill to take into consideration Hartmeyer’s lengthy contributions to the community during his time with the MCSO, as a Falls Township firefighter and other endeavors.

During his sentencing, Hartmeyer apologized for actions to the court and the community.

“I’m sorry to anyone I may have victimized,” Hartmeyer said while addressing the court. “My remorse is beyond words.”

Hartmeyer also wrote a letter to the court, as well as a general letter to all those he may have victimized.

Following Hartmeyer’s incarceration, he will be placed on post release control for three years. Additionally, he will be required to register as a Tier III sex offender for 25 years.
