New Red Cross Executive Director ready to serve southeast Ohio

There is a change of leadership at the Southeast Ohio Chapter of the American Red Cross.

After nearly a decade serving as Executive Director, Marlene Henderson entered retirement at the end of August, opening the door for Matthew Riddle to take over her position.

Though he is a Cleveland native, Riddle is well aware of the legacy Henderson left during her years of service.

“My plan is to build upon the foundation that Marlene Henderson created in Southeast, Ohio,” Riddle said. “I have big shoes to fill, but I have embraced the challenge to serve our community to help save lives.”

Riddle previously served as a donor development officer for the American Red Cross’ Ohio Buckeye and Northeast Ohio regions.

Now residing in Zanesville, Riddles plans to waste no time getting to know the community he serves, which encompasses 13 counties in southeast Ohio.

Riddle shared the personal impact the Red Cross has had on his family when his own father was a recipient the organization’s Biomedical Services program through blood and platelet treatments before his passing in 2015 from cancer.

“One of my goals is to educate the community on Red Cross services and to empower volunteers to make a difference,” said Riddle.

Riddle is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism.
