Railroad workers tend to malfunctioning crossing gate

A malfunctioning railroad crossing has been fixed after more than an hour and a half of traffic delays Wednesday afternoon on Linden Avenue.

At approximately 6 p.m. Ohio Central Railroad workers arrived to assess the situation.

An Ohio Central Railroad worker said that the railroad crossing has a fail safe feature that activates and deploys the crossing bars anytime an issue persists.

A train had recently crossed that intersection before the crossing bars came back down, but the workers are unsure what specifically caused that issue.

The workers quickly reset the fail safe feature after their arrival.

The intersection will reopen upon workers are done testing the cross bars.

Around 60 cars were stopped at the crossing located near the intersection of Linden Avenue and Park Street when the railroad gate arms came down around 4:20 p.m.

A Zanesville Police Department officer was on scene to direct traffic.
