It was announced Friday that Troy Balderson officially won the position of U.S. Representative from the 12th Congressional District.

According to a statement released by Danny O’Connor’s campaign, Troy Balderson received 104,328 out of 208,141 votes, totaling 50.1 percent.

Democratic candidate O’Connor was not far behind in polls with a total of 102,648 votes, totaling 49.3 percent.

Green Party candidate Joe Manchik received 1,165 votes, totaling less than 1 percent of the total votes.

Balderson released a statement reacting to the official release of the votes.

“I’m humbled by the support I’ve received from voters and look forward to representing Ohio’s 12th Congressional district in Congress. Danny O’Connor ran a hard-fought race, but I look forward to earning the support of voters for a fourth time in November as I share my track record of getting things done for Ohioans, including balancing the budget, cutting taxes and creating an environment for job creation,” Balderson said in his statement.

In O’Connors statement, he said he called Balderson to congratulate him on his victory. He also thanked his voters for their support.

“I want to express my deepest thanks to my campaign staff, our volunteers, and to everyone who cast a vote in the special election, whether it was for me or not.  I’m grateful to my grassroots supporters — because of you, we took no corporate PAC money and our campaign for New Leadership grew into an unstoppable movement,” O’Connor said in his official statement.

While the victory is still a win for Balderson, the representative position will be voted on again during the November election.
