Special Election yields strong voter turnout in Muskingum County

Voter turnout in Muskingum County was nearly as high as the Presidential Election during Tuesday’s special election for Ohio’s 12th Congressional District by percentages.

According to Muskingum County Board of Election records, 31.45 percent of registered voters turned out during Tuesday’s special election compared to 32.9 percent in the 2016 Presidential Election.

However, direct comparisons cannot be made since not all registered voters in Muskingum County live within the 12th district, making them ineligible to vote in the special election.

Looking at the Primary Election turnout, which 22 percent of Muskingum County’s 54,486 registered voters at the time made it to the polls, the special election turnout was very close with only a fraction of the county eligible to participate.

A total of 11,725 of Muskingum County’s registered 12th district constituents voted in the special election.

Several polling locations throughout the county nearly ran out of ballots, prompting second deliveries throughout the day Tuesday.

Unofficial results for the county showed Republican Troy Balderson beating Democrat Danny O’Connor for 12th District Representative.
