Tri-Valley girls basketball game Thursday limited to ‘immediate family’
March 10, 2020
Following the recommendation of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Tuesday, OHSAA Executive Director Jerry Snodgrass said the state tournaments will likely be limited to the immediate family of the student-athletes participating in the event.
According to a press release issued this afternoon Snodgrass said he is pleased that the tournaments can continue and more information about who exactly can attend will be released sometime tomorrow.
Currently, the proposal by the OHSAA is to allow each athlete up to four tickets to be given to parents and other close family members to observe Thursday’s game.
During a live video press conference, Snodgrass said his staff is still deciding on whether to allow cheerleaders and school bands to participate in the events.
When addressing concerns on Twitter, DeWine tweeted, “I do recommend that the media be among those permitted to attend sporting events.” The association has yet to confirm whether media will be allowed to attend and if they are, if there will be limitations to the number of staff from each news organization.
When questioned by reporters about the possibility of providing live video coverage of the event, Snodgrass mentioned it’s a possibility, stating that the tournaments are already set to be aired live on Spectrum News 1.
Snodgrass said that the OHSAA receives 80% of its revenue from ticket sales and that this move is likely to have a significant impact financially on the organization.
Tri-Valley’s website has been updated to reflect the changes stating, “Please be patient with us we are focusing on our team and their families. We will put information up about refund dates for next week. We need to get through the games and we will start getting money returned to ticket holders.”
Tri-Valley girls are scheduled to play Napoleon in the Girls Division II State Semi-Finals Thursday at 3 p.m. at OSU’s St. John Arena.
