Neuter Scooter clinic returning to Zanesville to help ‘stop the litter cycle’
May 16, 2019
The Neuter Scooter is coming back to Zanesville next week, and the clinic’s organizers have expanded the hours to allow for more operations.
PAWS of Muskingum County is hosting another spay and neuter clinic in partnership with Dr. Tess Peavy in an attempt to “stop the litter cycle.”
On May 22 and 23, there will be a clinic hosted in Zanesville for spaying and neutering cats. The cost is $60 per cat to have the operation, which includes tattoo and pain management. Those who bring feral cats in live traps can have the animals spayed or neutered for $30.
In an effort to reach more people in Muskingum County and beyond, in-person registration can be completed at the farmers market on Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and at the John McIntire Library from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, as well. Those wishing to participate do not have to be Muskingum County residents.
There is room for 200 cats to be spayed or neutered during the two-day clinic, although more are allowed to register as the turnout is typically 80 to 90 percent of those who register, Theresa Hildebrand, president of PAWS of Muskingum County, said.
During the last clinic, 127 cats were signed up and 92 made it out to the clinic.
Payment is not required until the cats are dropped off at the clinic. Due to the clinic accepting feral cats, Hildebrand said, oftentimes, feral cats cannot be caught the day of the clinic, which is not an issue due to payment transactions being made at the beginning of the clinic.
Vaccinations and other services will also be available at the clinic.
For those who may miss the Zanesville clinic, Buckeye Lake will host a clinic on May 24 and Guernsey County is hosting another on May 26.
Registration can also be done for the clinic online by visiting neuterscooter.com. Walk-ins will not be accepted, and payment will be accepted upon dropping off a cat. The location of the clinic will be distributed upon registration.
