An 81 year old woman is in serious condition following a collision Tuesday afternoon along State Route 16 near the Muskingum County border.

Shortly before 7 p.m. the female driver was traveling east in her Chrysler 200 when the vehicle went left of center, striking a semi truck head-on.

According to a Sergeant with the Coshocton County Sheriffs Department, after the collision the semi struct an embankment and burst into flames.

The driver of the semi was uninjured and able to escape his burning vehicle.

The driver and sole occupant of the Chrysler 200 was trapped inside her vehicle and once removed was transported by MedFlight to the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center in serious condition.

Rob McMasters, Director of Coshocton County EMA was also on scene assessing spilled diesel fuel and oil on the roadway.

“We’re going to open up the eastbound lane to traffic,…we’re going to try to get traffic moving, and the cleanup company will have access to clean up the oil,” stated McMasters.

The cleanup process is expected to last early into Wednesday morning.

The Coshocton County Sheriffs Department, the Coshocton County EMS, as well as multiple local fire and ems departments were on scene.
