Donation boxes to support the Muskingum County Dog Warden and Adoption Center can be spotted on counters at a few businesses around town, but Gemini’s Eclectic Emporium does a little more than house the box.

Every few months, head dog warden Bryan Catlin collects the donations left by customers of Gemini’s Eclectic Emporium, and for every dollar a customer donates, owner of the shop Jimi Campsey also donates one dollar.

“A big part of Gemini’s is just being involved in the community,” Campsey, who opened his store about four-and-a-half years ago, said. “So, I mean we sell stuff, but that’s just to pay the bills. We try as much as we can to develop community. It just seemed like a good thing to do.”

Campsey, who has customers from as far away as Pennsylvania, said many of his customers support the dog warden and a few even volunteer their time at the facility.

Thursday afternoon, Catlin collected the funds in the donation box that had been accumulating since the beginning of the year. In total, $72 was donated from customers of Gemini’s, which sent Catlin back to the adoption center with a $144 donation.

The Dog Warden and Adoption Center has two separate funds that donations can be allocated to. The current donations are going toward funding the new adoption center building. The second fund is for medical expenses for the dogs.

Catlin said there is no definite timeline for the renovations and building the new facility, but he’s hopeful that work will start over the summer.
