Multiple people charged with felonies in Schaum Avenue shooting plead not guilty

Wednesday morning, five of the six people charged in relation to a shooting on Schaum Avenue pleaded not guilty during their arraignments.

The shooting on April 1, which left one victim with likely non-life-threatening injuries, led to the arrest of eight individuals the following day. Six of those eight were charged.

Kashawn “Duda” Cox, Richard “Miles” Green, Dustan McDrew and Emily Goodrich all pleaded not guilty to their respective felony charges.

Mayson Brassfield also pleaded not guilty Wednesday morning in a separate session from the other four co-defendants.

Hayley Large was arrested and charged with resisting arrest but given that her charge is a misdemeanor, her case proceeded through Zanesville Municipal Court. She pleaded guilty and was ordered to serve 30 days in jail and be placed on probation for 12 months, 20 days of her jail sentence were suspended, according to her court records.

According to Captain Scott Comstock with the Zanesville Police Department, Cox and Goodrich were taken into custody at the Super 8 hotel on National Road on April 2. The remaining suspects were apprehended by members of local law enforcement’s special response teams throughout the day April 2 at various locations.

All felony charges include the following.

Kashawn “Duda” Cox, 23, is being held on a $500,000 bond:

  • Felonious assault with a firearm specification, a second-degree felony
  • Tampering with evidence with a firearm specification, a third-degree felony
  • Tampering with evidence, a third degree felony

Richard “Miles” Green, 24, is being held on a $100,000 bond:

  • Obstructing justice, a third-degree felony
  • Tampering with evidence with a firearm specification, a third-degree felony
  • Tampering with evidence, a third degree felony

Dustan McDrew, 23, is being held on a $50,000 bond:

  • Improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle while loaded, a fourth-degree felony
  • Resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor

Emily Goodrich, 22, is being held on a $100,000 bond:

  • Obstructing justice with a firearm specification, a third-degree felony
  • Tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony

Mayson Brassfield, 24, is being held on a $100,000 bond:

  • Obstructing justice, a third-degree felony
  • Tampering with evidence with a firearm specification, a third-degree felony
