An inmate at the Muskingum County Jail was pulled from the Muskingum River after escaping from the jail Tuesday afternoon.

Sheriff Matt Lutz said the inmate, Dustin Blagg, was a kitchen worker in the jail and was unloading a truck in the sally port when he ran out the open door in the port.

Blagg, whose name was not released at the time of original publication, was clinging to a section of built up debris in the river when authorities captured him just upstream from the Lorena Sternwheeler.

Lutz said the case will be sent to the Muskingum County Prosecutor’s Office for escape charges.

Blagg’s condition is unknown at the time of publication.

In addition to the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, Zanesville Police and Fire departments, as well as ValueCare Ambulance were all on scene.
