The driver of a FedEx Home Delivery van was trapped inside his vehicle for over 40 minutes while Perry Township Fire and EMS personnel worked to extract the man from his work vehicle.

The driver, whose name has not been released yet by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, was driving in the westbound lane of I-70 near the rest area when he struck the rear of a semi-truck exiting the rest area.

“The tractor trailer was having some engine trouble at the time of the crash and may have been slower than interstate traffic,” according to supervisor on scene for the patrol.

The driver of the FedEx vehicle is in serious condition and was transported to Genesis Hospital.

It is unknown what caused the driver to crash into the semi.

Interstate traffic was down to one lane near the Norwich exit for over two hours while first respondents were on scene.

The incident occurred just before 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night, with Perry Township and The Ohio State Highway Patrol responding.
