In the midst of a federal government shutdown, some residents throughout Muskingum County who rely on government assistance are left concerned about the continuance of their aid.

Calls have been coming in steady to the Muskingum County Job and Family Services office throughout the day, but the department is assuring those assistance recipients that their aid will be distributed as usual for the time being.

According to Jodie Wolfe, a Unit Support Worker at MCJFS, none of the office’s three government funded programs are affected at this time, which include ADC, Medicaid and SNAP.

However, Wolfe said she is unsure what will happen if the shutdown continues past January.

“If it goes on into February, that could be another story,” said Wolfe. “I don’t know.”

Wolfe said that any rumors stirring about social media are false.
