Weekend Planner Nov. 30 to Dec. 2

Happy (almost) December! People are really getting into the holiday spirit, and many of the events going on this weekend are holiday themed. There’s foods, crafts, decor and Santa to visit. If the holidays haven’t crossed your mind yet, there’s still live music events, art galleries and the Farmers’ Market to attend. Have an event this weekend or during the coming weekends you would like to see in the planner? Friday, Nov. 30:

  • Festival of Trees Live Auction at the Zanesville-Muskingum Welcome Center from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visit the Chamber of Commerce’s website for a full list of items and incentives.
  • New Horizons Contemporary Works by Christiane Curry in the Linn Auditorium at the Zanesville Museum of Art. Curry is a Columbus-based water media artist. The display will be available Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7: 30 p.m. and Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Feb. 9.
  • Rembrandt – The Consummate Etcher and Other 17th-Century Printmakers Exhibit at the Zanesville Museum of Art every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and  Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. from Oct. 25 through Jan. 5.
  • Muskingum County Courthouse Holiday Music and Light Show to celebrate the season through Jan. 2. The show is from 6 to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 6 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Angela Perley & The Howlin’ Moons at Weasel Boy Brewing Company from 8 to 11 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 1:

  • A Storybook Christmas is taking over Muskingum County organizations and businesses. Drive or walk through downtown and the rest of the county during December to see storefronts themed with different Christmas stories.
  • Take a Selfie with the Elfie, from Dec. 1 through Dec. 24, find the giant that will move around downtown Zanesville each Friday, snap a selfie and submit it to jchurch@zmchamber.com to be entered into a drawing for weekly prizes up until Christmas Eve.
  • Bishop Rosecrans High School Holiday Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is the perfect opportunity to buy up from craft-inspired holiday gifts.
  • Cookie Decorating with Mrs. Claus at the Primrose Retirement Community of Zanesville from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Children are invited to decorate cookies and get their photo taken with Mrs. Claus.

  • Animal Shelter Society Christmas Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy refreshments, visit with animals and maybe take one home with a special deal.
  • Gallery G Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Masonic Temple. Student and children’s art classes are available.
  • The Studio Me Holiday Experience from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Studio Me. There will be refreshments and a free kids craft.
  • Guided Gallery Sketch Hour at the Zanesville Museum of Art from 10 to 11 a.m. Participants are welcomed to the gallery to be inspired by the artwork on display during an hour with one of the museum’s educational staff members. The class is hosted on the first Saturday of every month. Members get in for free and non-members must pay a $7 participation fee.
  • Christy’s Main Street Memories Open House in New Concord from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Refreshments, door prizes and a storewide sale will be available.
  • Winter Farmers’ Market hosted by the Zanesville Farmers’ Market at Weasel Boy Brewing Company every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. from Nov. 3 through Dec. 15. The opening day will kick off with a kegs and eggs style breakfast at Weasel Boy.
  • Stone Academy Open House from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Stone Academy Historic Site and Museum. The open house features a new underground railroad exhibit.
  • Children’s Christmas Craft and Cookies at the Muskingum Valley Park District Office from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A craft, snack and special Christmas guest (Santa!) will be at the event. Cost is $8.
  • Free family day at the Zanesville Museum of Art – Holiday Cards and Gifts from 2 to 4 p.m.
  • Home for the Holidays Parade down Main Street in Dresden starting at 5:30 p.m. The parade starts at Dresden Middle School and runs down Main Street.
  • Muskingum County Courthouse Holiday Music and Light Show to celebrate the season through Jan. 2. The show is from 6 to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 6 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Fire Spinning Performance at Gemini’s Eclectic Emporium in the parking lot from 6:30 to 7 p.m.
  • High School Choir Festival at Secrest Auditorium from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. This is the 30th annual concert put on by the high school music departments.
  • Topher James at Weasel Boy Brewing Company from 8 to 11 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 2:

  • Snowman Cake Decorating Class at Linda’s Sweets. There are four available class times from 10 to 11 a.m., 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. Participants will learn how to frost and decorate a 6-inch cake. Classes are $35 and require a reservation.
  • Developing Drawing Skills with Nora Daniels a monthly event that takes place on the last Sunday of every month will be held at The Old Quaker from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Each workshop is $50 but scholarships are available.
