Ohio’s proposed constitutional amendment met with much controversy across the state was voted down during Tuesday’s Midterm Election.

Presented as Issue 1 on the state’s ballot, the proposed amendment was one local officials throughout Muskingum County stood together on and strongly opposed.

Prior to the election, Mayor Jeff Tilton, Zanesville Police Chief Tony Coury, Sheriff Matt Lutz, Prosecutor Mike Haddox, Judge Mark Fleegle, Judge Scott Rankin, Judge Jeffrey Hooper and others all met with the Muskingum County Commissioners to denounce the amendment back in October. 

Had it passed, Issue 1 would have made Felony 4 and 5 crimes misdemeanors, including carrying up to 19 grams of fentanyl.

Sheriff Matt Lutz took to Twitter to thank Ohioan and the people of Muskingum County for voting the issue down.
