Crews from Muskingum and Perry Counties are on the scene of a house fire near the border of both counties Wednesday morning.

Water tankers were needed to reach the home located on Bagley Road in the center of White Cottage and Mount Perry.

The fire began before 9:30 a.m.

Josh Ames, a firefighter with Newton Township Fire Department, said there was a lot of heavy smoke when crews arrived.

“These mobile home, double-wide things have a big open attic space, so by the time we got here the entire attic was full of fire,” Ames said. “So, we had to chase it around.”

Firefighters were still working to finish putting out “hot spots,” Ames said, at about 11:30 a.m.

National Trail, Glenford, South Zanesville and Newton Township Fire Departments were on scene, as well as Value Care Ambulance.

All residents made it out of the home before firefighters arrived on the scene, Ames said. No injuries were sustained.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but it is under investigation.

A previous version of this story stated that hot spots were still being put out at 12 p.m. instead of 11:30 a.m.
